Ken is a Dallas song and topline writer. So, what's the difference? A songwriter writes both the music and the lyrics of a song. A topliner takes an instrumental track and writes the lyrics and their melody over it. Beginning in 2021, Ken decided to take a leap of faith and fully produce some of his own material from scratch. Thanks to talented studio musicians, vocalists, and a patient producer, the result was his first EP, Ask You, a moody exploration of love, loss, longing, and spiritual connection. His latest set of songs continue those timeless themes.

March 2024: Where You Lie (Papa's Song)
*****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Smoky Mountains, Caroline
Stitch or two from the Georgia line
Your bones in red clay just where they grew
Coal ‘n cotton, corn to grind
Built the family ‘stead
Streets that line Westminster
Places traced in you
Where you lie, Blue Ridge taps your shoulders
Where you lie, foothills fiddle tunes
Where you lie, Georgia dew lights that road ahead
That winding road to Clayton west of you
Where you (Hey now, hey now, hey)
Where you (Hey now, hey now, hey)
Where you lie, tall oak trees bathe your sleepin’ head
And mockingbirds serenade you
You left for good in ‘41
Crops to seed, a farm to run
Called you “Bub the Renegade”
Took up north, there he strayed
Now your bones full circle share the view
Hey mockingbird! Let's hear it for your golden boy
Mockingbird! Sittin’ high above your southern boy
Add a run to your melody
A trill or two to your delivery
You spent your life drilling steel
Up at four, had mouths to feed
Traded dreams for a shipyard gate
Resigned yourself to a poor man’s fate
Now your bones full circle share the view
Where you lie, Blue Ridge taps your shoulders
Where you lie, foothills fiddle tunes
Where you lie, Georgia dew lights that road ahead
That winding road to Clayton west of you
Where you (hey now, hey now, hey)
Where you (hey now, hey now, hey)
Where you lie, tall oak trees bathe your sleepin’ head
And mockingbirds, and mockingbirds
And mockingbirds serenade you.
