Intro

Then and Now

In 2021, I decided to take a leap of faith by transforming some of my lyrics and melodies into polished songs. With help from talented musicians and vocalists, and invaluable guidance from a patient producer, the result was my first EP, Ask You, a moody exploration of love, loss, longing, and spiritual connection. Fast forward to 2025, which found me once again working with a studio, this time building a jazz EP, Liberty Street Sessions, featuring the mega talented Grace V. on vocals.  

 As fate would have it, the producer of those songs suggested I consider making videos to support that release. That, my friends, led to my discovery of an AI music generator that takes my lyrics to heights I did not think possible. Better melodies, better instrumentation, and better interpretations of my vision for each song resulted. While I cannot and will not claim ownership of the final musical products, I can say that the lyric inputs are mine, the role of editor (some tracks requiring numerous revisions) is mine, and the role of sound and genre curator is mine. The generated tracks cover multiple genres and demonstrate the full scope of what I can do as a lyricist. I hope you will listen.

My goal in doing all this is to demonstrate my ability as a lyricist, not to make a ton of money. Realizing AI’s inevitable impact on musicians, and the controversy surrounding music generator learning, 75% of all after tax royalties (if any), will go to MusiCares.

About My Music

The Journey So Far

 I started work on what would become Ask You in the fall of 2021. Encouraged by the reception for my first track, "Invisible," the project blossomed from there.

The single, "Where You Lie (Papa's Song),” pays homage to my father and his Southern roots. "Lust, Passion, Love," a bluesy Soul/Pop number followed along with “Spin the Wheel,” an Adult Contemporary number that gets a complete AI generator-assisted redo that is (I hope you agree) eons better than the original. That AI assisted track will be released in the fall of 26. Looking back to 2024, my intention was to release another EP called Melt into the Table as a follow up. Feeling pushed to package myself as something I am not, I abandoned that plan and withdrew from the music scene. I am not a practicing musician, I am not a great melody writer, but I am a credible lyric writer.

As an unknown lyricist, working with a music generator gives me the opportunity to explore genres, melodies, rhythms, vocals, and musical arrangements that bring those lyrics to life. For some, music generators will always be illegitimate, for me they have opened up a universe of exploration. My first AI assisted multi genre album Grab Bag is now available on Spotify and other platforms with Grab Bag 2 to follow. I hope you will enjoy them and see the merit in my AI collaboration.
